Meet the man behind the mic – your go-to energy industry expert, Mike Carter

Get to know one of Questline's legendary energy experts, Mike Carter, Senior Engineer and Certified Energy Manager.

A Questline veteran of more than 11 years, Mike has helped hundreds of utility clients and their energy consumers by answering pressing (and often fascinating) technical questions as part of the Ask an Expert service, a special feature of Questline's RelationshipBuilder digital newsletter offering. He also regularly hosts industry webinars, discussing topics from daylighting fundamentals to selecting natural gas burners to the latest building approaches, like dedicated outdoor air systems (DOAS).

"When I started at Questline, there were only about a dozen employees," Mike said. "Early on, I fulfilled the roles of account administrator, business development salesperson and content generator. I actually created RelationshipBuilder newsletters and the sidebar ads for our early customer accounts."

Stop by the Questline office, and you'll find Mike at the helm of the Ask an Expert service, as well as leading webinars presented to utility account managers as part of the Questline Academy service. He also develops and delivers custom, branded webinars for specific commercial and industrial utility customers.

"These customer attendees are typically facility operation managers, maintenance managers, small business owners and engineers," he explained.

Mike's contributions are far reaching. As a key Questline thought leader, he creates content for a variety of channels. Along with the energy-focused webinars, Mike writes and edits RelationshipBuilder newsletter articles and produces original content for utility customers. Custom pieces include segment-specific energy-saving catalogs, technology spec sheets, real-world case studies and commentary on the latest energy trends.

A true renaissance engineer, Mike even occasionally steps into the studio to record audio and video segments. He regularly lends his voice (and hands) to Questline customer videos – like this one describing power factor:

Mike frequents utility industry events. You may have seen him at last month's Lightfair International in Philadelphia. While there, he also participated in an Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) committee meeting on the updating of IES LEM-3 Guidelines for Upgrading Lighting Systems in Commercial and Institutional Spaces.

"I have also been invited to speak in front of business customers of NV Energy, AEP and Avista on various topics over the last few years," Mike said.

When he's not immersed in all things energy, Mike gives back to the community in many ways. On the last Saturday of every month, he takes a seat behind a big panel truck and picks up furniture and clothing donations for delivery to Joseph's Coat, an organization dedicated to helping individuals achieve self-sufficiency. On Thursdays, he picks up extra baked goods donated by Panera Bread and delivers them to the HEART Food Pantry. Mike also volunteers annually with the Bill Glass Behind the Walls organization, working with prison inmates to encourage positive life changes.
